motes and music (dp)

Sunshine, gilding the motes
of dust, drifting
lazy afternoon.
Music, wound up
the steel needle tracing
the path
of scratchy voices
from the past.

When I was a kid we had an Edison, huge old crank-it-up phonograph with a n extensive collection of 78s of singer whose names I can't remember, for the most part. Caruso does stand out, but then, he always did, didn't he?

I cried when we couldn't take it with us when we moved.
